Two Cases of Priapism Caused by Long‐Term Antipsychotic Administration

We report two cases of priapism that developed in patients with chronic schizophrenia after long‐term use of antipsychotic drugs. Almost all cases of this type of priapism reported previously have developed within a month after the start of administration of the drugs responsible. However, the present patients had taken a variety of antipsychotics for a long period, and they developed priapism more than one year after the introduction of the causative drugs, which were perphenazine, thiothixene and propericiazine. There are few previous reports of priapism related to each of these drugs. The present cases suggest that priapism may develop at any time after introduction of a variety of antipsychotics.
