SUMMARY1) The authors reported a case of chronic glial nodular polioencephalitis. 2) Clinical course: onset at the age of 41 years; euphoric dementia; dysarthria; gait disturbance; hiccup; increased tendon reflexes; 7 years' duration of the illness. 3) Pathological features: glial nodules and perivascular infiltration in the cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, pontine basis, inferior olivary nucleus; foci of spongio‐necrosis. 4) The clinicopathological comparison was made with the cases reported by Hara et al. and Kersting. 5) The present case was suspected virus encephalitis and considered belonging to Pette‐Doring type of panencephalitis. The authors suggested the possibility that in this case early mental symptoms of SSPE set in the adult and remained more or less stationary.
