Summary A patient suffering from a grief reaction treated by brief psychotherapy is described. Several factors contributed to her grief, among them termination with her former psychotherapist without sufficient working through of this separation. The nature of the brief psychotherapy is outlined as well as a follow‐up interview by an independent observer.
