S ummary One thousand epileptics were examined clinically and electroencephalographically. From these, 24 cases of petit mal absence confirmed by the examinations were studied. A certain correlation between age and frequency range of the 3 c/sec complexes was observed. Over half of the subjects showed some variations from typical or pure petit mal absence and asymmetries of the complex patterns and of the motor manifestations were noted. Mechanisms of pathophysiology in these cases with atypical petit mal absence were discussed.
