Summary A novel method of electranarcosis was thought out and introduced into practise, which reads: 1. Gradually increasing direct current was conducted between the scalp and rectum of dog, both in descending and ascending direction. 2. Using descending conduction, desirable narcosis was obtained after a short period of slight excitement and convulsion. 3. But in the ascending conduction, desired narcotic condition could not be obtained owing to severe excitement and convulsion. 4. In the ascending conduction, if the spot of electrode setting was anesthetized previously, desired narcosis was obtainable with little excitement and convulsion. 5. In the descending conduction, if pentothal‐sodium was injected intravenously as induction narcosis, more desirable narcotic state was obtained with little excitement or convulsion. 6. The effects of the electronarcosis free of convulsion upon the vital reaction of the body were examined and very little changes were recognizable thereby. 7. Small electrodes carrying descending current was conducted on various spots of the scalp, respectively. The most desirable result was obtained from the parietal conduction. 8. Small electrodes were set on the several spots on the surface of dura and pia mater. The results were satisfactory in the parietal conduction.
