India has considerable wetland resources. Many are increasingly subject to disturbance from a variety of anthropogenic pressures. The article outlines the distribution of Indian wetlands, indicates the nature of anthropogenic pressures on them, and discusses governmental responses, both financial and legislative and at the State and national level, to conserve and manage them.
