. The mode of death of newborn infants may have great importance in subsequent parental bereavement responses. With support and encouragement, parents should be able to involve themselves in the care of their dying newborn, with subsequent reduction of pathological grief responses. Three cases in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are described to illustrate this process.
