Eleven children with Kawasaki disease were seen in a single Melbourne Hospital, all but one within a five‐year period. There is at present no confirmatory laboratory test for the disease, the diagnosis of which is based on clinical criteria alone. The finding that most cases had respiratory involvement strengthened the view that Kawasaki disease and infantile periarteritis nodosa (IPN) are identical, a conclusion supported by all the clinical and pathological data currently available. It is possible that immunological abnormalities found in these cases could provide a basis for a future diagnostic test for the disease.
