Rapid repeated finger tapping is easy to measure objectively and can detect abnormalities of co‐ordination not found by standard clinical methods. A simple apparatus is described and age standards given. In children who had had bacterial meningitis, there was a significant deficit in the tapping rate of the non‐dominant hand.
