Abdominal scans using 99m Tc pertechnetate were performed on 41 patients (7 adults and 34 children) suspected of having a bleeding Meckel's diverticulum. Fourteen of these patients subsequently had laparotomies and a Meckel's diverticulum was found in 7 of the children. Two other children were found to have duplication cysts of the small intestine containing ectopic gastric mucosa. The scans successfully demonstrated both duplication cysts and all but one of the Meckel's diverticuli.
