Iodide induced goitre and hypothyroidism in infancy and childhood. The dangers of excessive administration of iodides in pregnancy and childhood are illustrated by a goitrous infant born to an asthmatic mother and an asthmatic adolescent girl who developed myxoedema. Both the mother and the girl had been taking potassium iodide (Kl) in the form of an aminophylline Kl mixture. The possible mechanisms of iodide‐induced goitre and hypothyroidism are discussed and recommendations given on the therapeutic use of iodides.
