Results are reported of a follow‐up study of 58 children who were born at The Women's Hospital, Crown Street in 1971‐1973 and who weighed less than 1,500 grams. In line with recent studies the rate of serious handicap was found to be lower than that reported in earlier studies. Height and weight were still below average and there was a relatively high rate of strabismus. Intelligence and fine motor skills were well within the normal range but there was some evidence of clumsiness on motor balance tests. The rate of spasticity was 7%.
