A study has been made of seven obese children and their mothers in discussion groups to explore their attitudes to obesity and its treatment. It'was apparent that members of the groups had very different problems associated with their obesity, and that treatment aimed at weight reduction alone would be inappropriate. The group discussions appeared useful in allowing children and their parents to express their feelings and problems, and gain insight into them. They also provided diagnostic insight into individual children and their families.
