SYNOPSIS Sulphamethoxazole‐trimethoprim combination was given to children suffering urinary tract infections and compared in a double blind fashion with sulphamethoxazole alone. The overall success rate 7 months after a 6 months’course of the above medications was 63% with sulphamethoxazole‐trimethoprim and 41.7% with sulphamethoxazole alone. This difference is not statistically significant. Both medications were administered for 6 months and no haematological abnormalities or other evidence of folic acid deficiency were noted.
