SYNOPSIS A study has been made of the foetal outcome in 38 pregnancies complicated by maternal autoimmune disease over a 10 year period at a Sydney hospital. The diseases included thyrotoxicosis, idiopathic thrombocytopaenic purpura, myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus and scleroderma. The occurrence of perinatal manifestations of these maternal disorders is of importance both in the paediatric management of such cases and in the study of aetiological factors in autoimmune disease.
