Synopsis A study of the excretion of low‐molecular weight fatty acids in the faeces of 10 premature babies is presented. It is suggested that the differences demonstrated at different ages are due to the presence of fermentation of carbohydrate in the bowel early in life, and that this process gradually disappears as artificially fed babies become more mature.
