SYNOPSIS The records of 25 consecutive children with meningococcal septicaemia in the years 1964–1969 have been reviewed. Those with hypotension developed hypokalaemia within 6 hours after admission. It is suggested that vigorous potassium therapy may be required to prevent the effects of hypokalaemia on cardiac contractility, and on cardiac rhythm in the digitalised patient.
