SYNOPSIS The mean daily intake of pooled human milk (containing 1.84 ± 0.24 g% protein) was measured during the first and successive postnatal weeks in infants of low birth weight. By the end of the second postnatal week this feeding provided a protein allowance of 3 to 5 gm/Kg/day, largely independent of the infant's sex and perinatal history.
