SYNOPSIS This paper describes 7 children with mesenteric lymphadenitis due to infection by Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis. All presented with symptoms suggesting subacute appendicitis. The final diagnosis was first suspected from the histological appearance of epithelioid granulomas with central necrosis and in 3 cases this was confirmed by culture of the organism from excised lymph nodes. All patients had a high antibody titre to the infecting organism at the time of laparotomy, and in 4 patients the diagnosis was made serologically before the results of culture on histological examination were available. All 7 patients were given antibiotics, and all recovered uneventfully.
