SYNOPSIS A high incidence of hiatus hernia and gastro‐oesophageal reflux was found in children and adolescents suffering from cerebral palsy. 79 children were examined radiologically and in 29 the barium swallow was abnormal; 13 showed a hiatus hernia, and 16 had gastro‐oesophageal reflux without a demonstrable hiatus hernia. The possible causes of the high incidence in this series are discussed.
