SYNOPSIS The type of the glomerular lesion in children with the nephrotic syndrome can be predicted with a high degree of accuracy by estimating the index of selectivity of proteinura. This is performed on casual specimens of urine and serum, and provides the clinician with useful information concerning the type of lesion and the probable response to steroids.
