SYNOPSIS The outline of the liver was readily seen in nearly 70% of radiographs of the chest in 441 newborn infants when the region of the liver was included. This paper describes a method of estimating the weight of the liver from measurements made on the radiographs. There was a fair correlation between these estimates and the weight of the liver recorded at autopsy in 48 of the 441 babies. Some errors and limitations of the method are discussed.
