SYNOPSIS The results of a 4‐year prospective study of anaemia in children related to infections, toxic states and chronic ill health are presented as noted in hospital practice. Whilst only few patients with acute infections were anaemic, this group as a whole was numerically most significant. The aetiology, incidence, pathogenesis and general aspects of management are discussed.
