EDITORIAL SYNOPSIS This paper is concerned with the techniques employed in determining the gradient, and hence the degree of stenosis, across the aortic valve in children in whom aortic stenosis is suspected. Experience gained in the investigation of a large series of children is reported, including the failure rate, the minor complications encountered, and the means whereby these may be prevented. The authors recommend percutaneous puncture of the left ventricle when retrograde catheterization via a peripheral artery is unsuccessful.
