SYNOPSIS Blood glucose levels in normal premature infants before and after feedings have been determined during the first four weeks of life. The findings suggest that there is a progressive maturation of intestinal disaccharide digestion and of hexose absorption during this time. However, the age at which these reach their maximum is variable and not related to the rate of gain in weight.
