Non‐cardiac chest pain (NCCP) is the most common extra‐esophageal manifestation of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The proton pump inhibitor empirical trial (PPI test) is a simple non‐invasive, arcurate and cast‐saving test for evaluating patients with GERD‐related NCCP. The review will discuss the use of the PPI test as a diagnostic test for NCCP.
