This paper begins with a short review of some of the major sources of the critique of traditional science. It provides a context in which to assess the extent of the challenge posed by Australian nursing to traditional concepts of positivist science and the associated technoscience project. Resistance to scientization in nursing research, education and clinical practice is outlined with specific reference to the substantial and growing Australian literature.
