SUMMARY 1. Two deficiency alleles of α 1 ‐antitrypsin (AAT) called S and Z have been previously associated with lower blood pressure levels. 2. A sample of Australian hypertensive and normotensive subjects was investigated with respect to these alleles. 3. No association of blood pressure levels with these AAT alleles was found in our study sample.
