SUMMARY 1. Flavone, its methoxy derivatives and flavanone were synthesized by standard methods and were tested for analgesic activity in mice by employing acetic acid writhing and tail flick methods. 2. All the tested compounds except flavanone exhibited significant dose‐dependent analgesic activity in both the assay models. Some of the compounds were found to involve opioid mechanisms in their analgesic effect. 3. A definite structure‐activity relationship was observed in the analgesic activity of flavone derivatives as well as in their mechanism of action.
