Occupational therapists introduced a community living skills programme to provide clients with spinal cord injury the skills to accomplish independent living at home and in community settings. The 10 week programme with theoretical and practical components is co‐ordinated by the occupational therapy department, and involves peer facilitators and community representatives, who assist with the provision of information. The results of a questionnaire indicated that the programme was a useful format for developing assertive behaviour and increasing the utilization of community resources. Specific recommendations relating to the improvement and evaluation of the programme have been identified.
