Occupational therapists working in the psychosocial field may use art techniques to facilitate their clients' self expression, creativity, insight and progress in therapy. However some, lacking specific training or experience, may hesitate to use art regularly or to any great degree. The purpose of this paper is to provide such therapists with guidelines for using art in therapy, and to describe an art exercise battery which has been used successfully for four years in a psychiatric day hospital.
