It was hypothesized that the degree of depth of depression of schizophrenic patients would vary with five characteristics of their paintings. Three independent raters for each of the five characteristics ranked the paintings for the degree of the particular characteristic present. Highly significant inter‐rater reliability was found, but no association between the depth of depression and the five variables could be demonstrated.
