Factors likely to effect the development of allied health professions during the 1980s are discussed. There is particular reference to occupational therapy and the way that it may be influenced by the supply of manpower, health costs, changing concepts in the provision of health related services and the profession's expectations of graduate therapists. A model for organisation of health science courses is proposed. The model is designed to meet the need for greater flexibility between courses and to promote the realistic development of health teams.
