Details of the process used by the authors, as curriculum design consultants, for the Rural Medicine Curriculum Design Project are presented. The process resulted in separate curricula in surgery, anaesthesia and obstetrics for use in advanced training within the Rural Training Program of the Faculty of Rural Medicine of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Key features of the design process are synthesized as a guide to projects where agreement across divergent groups is essential.
