There is a nutrition paradox in Australia. Nutrition‐related disease continues to be the main cause of mortality and morbidity, yet Australians enjoy one of the world's best food supplies. A regional Community Nutrition Program based in the Orana & Far West Region of New South Wales, using the content knowledge of dietitians in conjunction with the methodological expertise of a Health Promotion Unit, has been developed to address the relatively greater burden of nutrition‐related disease in the region, compared with NSW standards. The basis of this multi‐strategy program has been focused on research of the factors that contribute to dietary intake specific to the regional population, in particular, socioeconomic, environmental and cultural factors.
