S ummary Contact allergy to tear gas among law enforcement personnel is uncommon. This report records a prison warder who developed allergic contact dermatitis to a tear gas, mace. The dermatitis developed on the abdomen and chest where he carried the tear gas canister. Mace appears to be a potent sensitiser as contact allergy developed rapidly following brief exposure in this patient.
