S ummary A patient with a fixed drug eruption due to methaqualone ingestion is described. Attention is focused on the involvement of identical areas of the skin in two previous episodes, on the progressive increase in extent and severity with each episode, and on the shortening of the time interval between the ingestion of the drug and the development of clinical symptoms and lesions. These findings, together with the pain which preceded the appearance of the clinical lesions, and the presence of many neutrophils in the dermal infiltrate, support the current theory of antibody‐dependent cytotoxic mechanisms in the pathogenesis of fixed drug eruptions.
