S ummary A retrospective study of 37 patients with bullous pemphigoid was conducted at the Middle Road Hospital. The mean age of onset was 58.4 years. There was no significant difference in the incidence between males and females. Singaporeans of Indian origin had a higher incidence of bullous pemphigoid. There was no significant association with internal malignancy. The commonest immunoreactant detected at the basement membrane zone (BMZ) was C3 (87.8 %). There was no correlation between the titre of serum anti BMZ antibody and the clinical activity of the disease. There were nine deaths in this group (24 %). Only two patients (22%) had active skin lesions at the time of death.
