S ummary A case of onychomycosis caused by Microsporum canis in a 75‐year‐old woman is presented. Clinically, the left great toe‐nail was thickened, friable and cracked, some subungual debris was present and a brownish discoloration was present over the nail plate. Microscopic examination of the nail revealed hyphal fragments, eroding fronds and perforating organs and M. canis was isolated on two separate occasions. A study of the literature has not revealed any previous case of M. canis onychomycosis reported in Australia.
