S ummary Potent topical corticosteroids have been documented as causing Cushing's syndrome and hypothalamo‐pituitary‐adrenal suppression. This can be minimized by restriction of potent preparations to specialists and by using these compounds for a minimum, but effective period. If potent corticosteroids are used for prolonged periods, then hypothalamo‐pituitary suppression should be excluded or confirmed by a metyrapone test.
