(c) May 1972 : (Dr. A. Dorevitch) : "Microscopy: The appearances are similar to those in the biopsy of 1971. There is a heavy infiltrate composed of lymphocytes, histiocytes and atypical histiocytes in the upper dermis. The lower border of the infiltrate is well demarcated. A heavy infiltrate is also seen about blood vessels in the deeper dermis and about keratin filled dilated hair follicles. The cells extensively infiltrate the epithelium of the hair follicles and are also scattered to a lesser extent in the epidermis. The atypical cells exhibit deeply staining polygonal nuclei. A very occasional collection of such cells is seen within the epidermis. An alcian blue stain for mucin shows an occasional collection of positively staining material within the infiltrated stratified squamous epithelium of the hair follicles.
