SUMMARY The operation of hairgrafting, though first described overseas some 20 years ago, has only been done to any extent in Australia over the last five years. Previously it was considered justified only in replacing some hair lost in accidents, and the attempts at replacement were often half‐hearted. Extensive experience with the operation has shown that satisfactory cosmetic results can be obtained in almost all cases of hair loss where there is no active disease present.
