SUMMARY A case history is presented of a patient who acquired an acute fungal infection, through inoculation, with contaminated timber. Trichophyton mentagrophytes was cultivated from the lesion, and this was thought to have had its origin in an infected animal which, had contaminated the soil of the paddock, and which, in turn had contaminated the wood which caused the injury. The pathogenic nature of this zoophilic strain of T. mentagrophytes is noted.
