Lack of Relationship Between Spontaneous Fluctuations of FSH, LH and Testosterone and Semen output Quality in Young Postpubertal Bulls

Contents The secretory patterns of FSH, LH and testosterone were investigated in eight young postpubertal bulls from frequent blood samplings repeated on two occasions. These bulls were classified according to their semen output, evaluated from 15 consecutive weekly ejaculations, as good (n = 5 bulls) or poor (n = 3 bulls) semen producers. A lack of significant difference between the FSH, LH and testosterone patterns of good and poor semen producers was observed in the present study. It was concluded that as long as the physiological basic processes of spermatogenesis are initiated, poor semen output is not associated with drastic changes in the gonadotropins (FSH, LH) or testosterone secretions . Inhalt: Fehlende Beziehungen zwischen spontanen Fluktuationen von FSH, LH und Testosteron zur Spermaqualität von jungen postpuberalen Bullen FSH‐, LH‐ und Testosteron(T)‐Sekretionsmuster wurden bei 8 jungen postpuberalen Bullen durch häufige Blutentnahmen zu zwei unterschiedlichen Zeitpunkten aufgestellt. Die Bullen wurden nach ihrer Samenproduktion ermittelt an 15 aufeinanderfolgenden wöchentlichen Samenentnahmen und in “gute” (n = 5) oder “schlechte” (n = 3) Samenproduzenten unterteilt. Zwischen diesen beiden Gruppen bestanden keine signifikanten Unterschiede für FSH, LH oder Testosteron. Es wurde geschlossen, daβ, sofern die Spermatogenese angelaufen ist, die eigentliche Samenproduktion nicht mit FSH, LH oder Testosteron assoziiert ist . Résumé: Absence de relations quantitatives entre les concentrations hormonales de FSH, LH et testostérone et le spermogramme chez de jeunes taurillons Cette étude a été réalisée chez 8 jeunes taurillons post‐pubères pour étudier les profils des secrétions de FSH, LH et testostérone à partir de prélèvement sanguins effectués à deux reprises. Les animaux étaient l'objet de 15 recoltes de sperme hebdomadaire entre 11 et 15 mois. Parmi les 8 taurillons, 5 avaient un spermogramme de bonne qualite et 3 de mauvaises caractéristiques. La comparaison des profils hormonaux de FSH, LH et de testostérone entre les deux groupes d'animaux ne réuèle aucune difference significative entre ces 2 groupes. On peut conclure que les profils hormonaux de FSH, LH et de testostérone n'apparaissent pas sipificativement altérés cher les taureaux jugés mauvais selon la qualité de leur spermogramme .
