Summary A case of primary subcutaneous zygomycosis due to Rhizopus oryzae is described in a 71‐year‐old man with normal immune status. Diagnosis was based on histological examination and culture of biopsy fragments from skin lesions. The patient recovered after itraconazole therapy (200 mg day −1 for 60 days followed by 100 mg day −1 for 45 days).
