Summary. A modified genotyping assay for Candida albicans based on the RAPD‐PCR ( r andom a mplification of p olymorphic D NA) is described. Following capillar blot of RAPD‐PCR products onto a nylon membrane, hybridization with a PCR‐generated gene probe resulted in heterogeneous band patterns. By this method the discriminatory power of RAPD‐PCR is enhanced with satisfactory reproducibility and reduced interference. Zusammenfassung. Ein modifiziertes Verfahren zur Genotypisierung von Candida albicans , ausgehend von der RAPD‐PCR ( r andom a mplification of p olymorphic D NA), wird dargestellt. Nach Kapillarblot der RAPD‐PCR‐Produkte auf eine Nylonmembran ergibt die Hybridisierung mit einer PCR‐generierten Gensonde heterogene Bandenmuster. Mit Hilfe dieser Methode wird die Diskriminationsleistung der RAPD‐PCR bei zufriedenstellender Reproduzierbarkeit und reduzierter Störanfälligkeit erhöht.
