Summary. Twenty different keratin‐rich substrates were screened as keratin baits for isolation of keratinophilic fungi from different soil sample of Chhindwara District, India. Fungi easily formed colonies on different baits. However, hair, feathers and horns were found to be more suitable than nails, fish fins and fish scales. Zusammenfassung. Zwanzig unterschiedliche Keratin‐Substrate wurden auf ihre Eignung als Keratin‐Köder zur Isolierung keratinophiler Pilze aus Bodenproben des Chhindwara‐Distrikts, Indien, untersucht. Auf verschiedenen Keratinen wuchsen die Pilze gut an. Haare, Federn und Hornmaterialien erwiesen sich als geeigneter als Nägel, Fischflossen und Fischchshuppen.
