Comparison of Oxiconazole (Ro 13–8996) and Econazole in Dermatomycoses

Summary: 120 patients with dermatomycoses were treated topically with oxiconazole, a new antifungal imidazole, or with econazole according to a double‐blind randomized order. Treatment was continued until one week after resolution of symptoms and assessment of results was based on both clinical and mycological parameters. 90% of the oxiconazole‐treated patients, and 91.4% of those treated with econazole were cured. Tolerance was good in both groups. It was concluded that the antifungal effect of oxiconazole is comparable to that of econazole. Zusammenfassung: 120 Patienten, die an Dermatomykosen litten, wurden topisch mit Oxikonazol, einem neuen antimykotischen Imidazol‐Derivat oder mit Econazol im Doppelblind‐Verfahren behandelt. Die Behandlung wurde noch eine Woche nach Abklingen der klinischen Symptome fortgesetzt. Die Gesamtbeurteilung des Behandlungsresultates bei der Abschlußuntersuchung wurde sowohl auf klinische als auch auf mykologische Kriterien bezogen. 90% der Fälle, die mit Oxiconazol und 91,4% von den Patienten, die mit Econazol behandelt wurden, waren geheilt. Die Verträglichkeit war in beiden Gruppen gut. Die vorliegenden Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die antimykotische Wirkung von Oxiconazol vergleichbar mit der von Econazol ist.
