The Lymphocyte Transformation Test in Dermatophytosis

Summary Cell‐mediated immunity to dermatophytin antigens was studied by the lymphocyte transformation test in 63 patients suffering from dermatophytosis and in 31 controls. The antigens were prepared from Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, Trichophyton rubrum , and Candida albicans. Fifty‐six per cent of the patients and 23 per cent of the controls responded to the dermatophytin antigens, which were found to cross‐react with each other. Seventy‐seven per cent of the patients and 76 per cent of the controls responded to Candida antigen.“No difference was found between the lymphocyte responses of the patients who had suffered from,‐ one infection as compared to those patients who had suffered from two ore more infections. Zusammenfassung Zellvermittelte Immunreaktionen gegen Antigene von Dermatophyten wurden mit dem Lymphozytentransformationstest in vitro bei 63 Patienten mit einer Dermatophytosis der Haut bzw. Nägel und bei 31 Kontrollpersonen untersucht. Die Antigene wurden aus Kul‐turen von Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum und Candida albicans bereitet. In 56 Prozent der Patienten und 23 Prozent der Kontrollpersonen wurden positive Stimulationsraten gegen die Dermato‐phytenantigene beobachtet. Kreuzreaktionen zwischen den verschiedenen Pilzarten waren häufig. 77 Prozent der Patienten und 76 Prozent der Kontrollpersonen reagierten auf Candida‐ Antigen positiv. Kein signifikanter Unterschied in derLymphozytenstimulations‐fähigkeit in vitro konnte zwischen den Patienten, welche nur unter einer Entzündung zu leiden hatten, im Vergleich mit Patienten mit zwei oder mehrere Entzündungen gezeigt werden.
