Summary The geophilic dermatophytes Trichophyton terrestre, Keratinomyces ajelloi, Microsporon cookei and Microsporon gypseum were tested for antibacterial capacity against Staphylococcus aureus and some gram negative rods. M. cookei showed a marked, M. gypseum and J. terrestre a slight inhibitory effect on all tested strains of Staphylococcus aureus. This is, as far as the authors are aware, the first report on antibacterial properties of M. cookei.
